This panorama is my contribution to the World Wide Panorama. It was shot short after sunrise.

This is the Hüttenkirche (little chapel) of the West Runway at the Frankfurt airport.

At the end of the 70's and early 80's, many people were protesting against the newly-proposed West Runway for the Frankfurt airport. The culmination of this protest was a village of approximately 50 wooden huts, like this one, intentionally built in the path of this new runway.

People lived in the village, with the Hüttenkirche at the center, to prevent the forest from being torn down.

On November 2, 1981, the people were forcibly removed by the police, and all the buildings were torn down, except one. The Hüttenkirche itself was carefully dismantled and stored in Mörfelden-Walldorf for two years.

In 1983, it was brought out of storage and reassembled for the 20. evangelischer Kirchentag (20th Protestant Church Congress), but then dismantled and stored again until 1985, for another Kirchentag.

In 1987, it finally found its permanent home in Mörfelden-Walldorf, in the margin between the towns. It now lies on a former asparagus field which belongs to the Protestant Church.
